Ready to discover where you too can find the most picturesque Instagrammable spots in Lisbon?
Ben and I visited Lisbon in November 2023, whilst in the first trimester of pregnancy! We had the best time, staying in a cute apartment in the Alfama area, exploring by foot, subway and bus, trying all the delicious foods and seeing as many of the sights as we could in a few days! We visited Lisbon Cathedral; St Georgeโs Castle; saw the famous banana-yellow Tram 28; the quaint, charming winding cobbled streets of Alfama; the Pantheon; visited Belem area and saw the incredible Mosteiro dos Jeronimos. Lisbon is full to the seams with history, bursting with colour and music, and is a cacophony of sounds and tastes and smells. I loved it! Here are some favourite photos from our trip – you too can visit these super Instagrammable spots in Lisbon!

See the famous โGateway to Lisbonโ – the Arco da Rua Augusta
Looking out over towards the sea, this archway is pretty impressive, especially lined by the bright yellow buildings.
Follow the tram lines of the famous yellow Tram 28
You can see this tram around the Cathedral, and it will take you up and down the steep cobbled hills of the city.
Wander around the vibrant streets of Lisbon and spot the prettiest houses!
I adored wandering up and down the narrow streets of Lisbon. The tall, square buildings are brightly coloured, with those red roofs that are infamous in the Alfama particularly for the heavy Moorish influence. Busy and vibrant, Lisbon is a colourful, fun city!
Admire the incredible cloisters of the picturesque monasteries
There are many monasteries to visit in Lisbon, and the cloisters are arguably the most visually pleasing parts! Make sure to read all the info signs and see the museum displays too to learn all about the interesting history of Lisbon.
Carmo Convent was particularly amazing because it was destroyed in the 1755 earthquake, and has now been made into a museum. Countless important archeological finds have been made here.
Enjoy the ocean at Belรฉm Tower
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a 16th century tower that was designed to fortify the city, Belem Tower is definitely worth a visit! We took a bus there, and, with the history of the area combined with buskers playing the perfect background music, it was a fabulous day.Ben in front of Belem Tower
Explore a cool castle with fantastic views
Castelo de Saล Jorge is an absolute must-see for some gorgeous views across Lisbon. It’s an interesting place too, with ramparts to explore and a museum to learn from.
Taste the best local pastry – Pastel de Nata!
You can’t visit Lisbon (or Portugal in general!) without trying a Pastel de Nata! An egg custard tart lightly dusted with cinammon, they’re quite the sweet treat! This one is actually a Nutella one, and my oh my was it scrumptious!
