Colourful street art on the side of buildings on a street in Budapest

Unseen Photos of Autumnal Budapest: A photo diary

If you’re looking for a beautiful autumnal destination for an October city break, I cannot recommend Budapest enough. There is so much to see and do; so much so that we plan on going back there in the future to see the things we may have missed, and enjoy it at a different time of year! This post is dedicated to my favourite photos of this beautiful city. Photos that show a bit of an unseen side of Budapest!

Location: Budapest, Hungary

Budapest is the first international trip that Ben and I took with our daughter, Pebble! After hearing from lots of people that we shouldn’t be going abroad, I researched baby-friendly cities to visit for a short week away. I wanted a friendly city, local hotel that could provide a baby crib, within walking distance of key sights, in a country that neither of us had ever been to before, with a direct short haul flight to get us there. Budapest ticked all the boxes, and thereafter my research stopped. I love to turn up to a new place knowing as little as possible, and so we excitedly booked our flight and accommodation via lastminute.com! It worked out so well, and we had the best week with Pebble, in a country that literally advertises itself as ‘Family Friendly Hungary’!

Autumn is gorgeous in Budapest!

Such a lush time of year! The trees with their golden orange leaves just made the city even more beautiful.

Fascinating street views

The architecture is a mix of Neoclassical, Romanesque and others! On every street there are buildings to gawk at, to admire and awe at. The architecture is what stood out for us, and we loved wandering the (very clean!) streets admiring everything. Not to mention the super cute yellow tram trundling along the riverside!

Gorgeous architecture of Budapest!
Bustling streets and pretty buildings!
The tram just adds to the charm of Budapest!
This yellow tram runs alongside the Danube!

Scrummy coffee, pastries and local dishes!

Nothing beats a hot (oat milk!) coffee and a freshly baked pastry in the crisp morning air! Most restaurants had outdoor eating places, and we loved enjoying the pretty streets whilst enjoying the local wares.

A pretty sandwich shop that did nice coffee (with oat milk!) and suuuuuch tasty sandwiches!
Such a lush meal! Beef Hungarian goulash and fresh bread

A city with so much history

History both centuries old, and more recent. Budapest has a lot of interesting sights to see, such as Buda Castle, various churches, and also museums such as the House of Terror. We learnt so much, not only about medieval history, but also Hungary’s part in the war, and in the Soviet Union. Even the architecture shows a long, complex history, and is stunning to gawp at!

Fantastically colourful street and building art!

I loved this about Budapest! Street art was everywhere, and it was bright, vivid and so interesting to study as we walked the streets! I had no idea that the city was so full of art, so I really see these as unseen photos of Budapest!

Brightly coloured artwork on the side of a Goulash restaurant!
A tribute to family perhaps? It’s certainly interesting to study!
The colours of this one are so vivid!

Views over Budapest

So many viewpoints, and so many beautiful places to look out at the city from! We loved climbing up the castle, the bastion, and Gellert Hill to see the stunning, glittering Danube, and the pretty city of Budapest.

There’s a gorgeous viewpoint from the castle
The castle gardens have fabulous views over the Danube too
On the way up to Gellert Hill you can see the whole city!
